Still Figuring it Out - With Flair | Volume 1, Edition 14
Aug 24, 2025
Welcome back to Lead Anew: Insights and Growth. This edition is for anyone who has ever led while secretly searching for guidance online. Spoiler alert: most of us are still learning and growing. Leadership isn’t about a final exam; it’s about trial, error, laughter, and the courage to evolve continuously. There’s a common misconception that once you reach a certain age or level, you’ve got it all figured out. You’re expected to walk into rooms with confidence, clarity, and a perfectly organized binder. Unfortunately, even now, I have days when I feel like the intern in charge of everything. The only difference is that I’ve learned to lead anyway.
Early in my career, I believed that credibility meant possessing all the answers. However, I’ve come to realize that it’s about asking the right questions and being honest when you don’t have all the answers. Leadership isn’t a performance; it’s a practice. Sometimes, that practice involves tripping in your new shoes, laughing it off, and still finishing the meeting with grace.
Some of my best leadership moments weren’t the ones where I nailed the agenda. They were the times when I admitted that I was learning, the times when I paused to listen attentively, the times when I said, Let’s figure this out together. That kind of vulnerability doesn’t diminish your influence; it deepens it. People don’t want perfection; they want authenticity.
I’ve also learned that flair isn’t about style; it’s about being authentic. It’s about showing up as yourself, quirks and all. It’s about bringing humor to heavy moments. It’s about leading with heart even when you’re unsure, because, let’s be honest, if we waited until we felt completely ready, we’d never raise our hands or speak up in the first place.
Leadership in real life often resembles learning in public. It’s messy, brave, and a little awkward. And that’s okay, because figuring it out doesn’t mean you’re failing; it means you’re engaged. It means you care enough to grow, even if your growth has a few plot twists and coffee stains along the way.
So, here’s to the ones still figuring it out with grace, grit, and just enough flair to keep it interesting. Keep asking. Keep learning. Keep laughing. You’re leading more than you know.
You don’t need to be perfect to make a difference. Keep showing up, keep growing, and lead with a touch of flair. The world needs your authentic self. Keep leading anew.
