Finding My Voice, Living My Purpose: My Second Season Story
Â
For a long time, I stayed quiet in spaces where I should have spoken up, especially in moments when I doubted whether I belonged. I had built a successful career, but somewhere in the process, I stopped trusting myself. I delivered results, supported teams, and kept everything running, yet internally, I often questioned whether my voice truly mattered.
That all changed when I decided to go back to school. It had been 26 years since I had been in a classroom. Signing up for college again at this stage of life was one of the most daunting steps I have ever taken. I was surrounded by people half my age, and the systems and platforms had undergone dramatic changes. Remember, there were no cell phones or the internet when I was in school last; I’m showing my age here. I felt uncertain and vulnerable, but with each assignment I completed, I felt a sense of renewal within me. I was learning again, not just academically, but personally. My confidence gradually returned, and my voice felt rooted in something deeper. I even discovered a passion for writing.
During the same season and month, I was offered a position that perfectly aligned with my long-held aspirations. It wasn’t just about the responsibilities or the schedule; it was about the profound sense of purpose it brought. This new role focused on serving those most in need, and working in healthcare for the underserved reignited my passion for meaningful, mission-driven work. I no longer felt compelled to separate my values from my profession; I had found a space where my skills, heart, and purpose could all coexist harmoniously.
Embracing that job required me to believe in my worthiness of work that resonated with my values. It also meant letting go of roles that had outgrown me. I had to stop chasing titles that appeared impressive on paper and instead pursue positions that felt deeply fulfilling in my spirit. It was no longer enough to be capable; I yearned for connection to the work, the people, and the mission. Discovering that kind of alignment was not only gratifying, but also therapeutic.
Finding my voice has been a gradual process, marked by a series of small choices. It began with the courage to speak when I had previously remained silent. It involved returning to school instead of doubting my abilities. And it culminated in walking away from comfort and embracing something more meaningful. These decisions, though not always easy, have been profoundly rewarding. They have taught me that the clarity of my voice deepens with consistent use, and its strength grows with unwavering trust.
Today, I lead with greater authenticity than ever before. I no longer feel compelled to overcompensate or prove myself. Instead, I prioritize clarity, deep listening, and standing up for what truly matters. My second act has reminded me that leadership is not merely about holding power; it is about aligning oneself with one’s values, purpose, and voice.
If you find yourself in a place where you feel unheard, uncertain, or stuck, I want to remind you that your voice is still present. It may be faint at the moment, but it is not lost. It awaits your permission to speak once again. Trust that it retains its power and will guide you to your true purpose. Stay tuned, and thank you for leading anew, right alongside me.Â
